Writing an effective thesis statement: Grade 9, English
In this unit, students will learn what a thesis statement is and how to write a thesis statement. Students will incorporate their opinions into the statement while answering the prompt and discussing what their essay will be about. Students will also work from the thesis statement to organize their essay with topic sentences. These topic sentences will be sub-sentences of the thesis statement and will both support its assertions and dictate the paragraphs in the body of the essay. Students will also learn how to use appropriate vocabulary in their thesis statements.
